Politicians and business leaders from across Africa are in Beijing to present investment opportunities. The African Investment Meeting Roadshow has attracted a growing number of Chinese investors. It comes just weeks after this year's Forum on China-Africa Cooperation in Beijing.
China has been Africa's largest trading partner for 9 consecutive years. During the recent China-Africa Cooperation Forum, Chinese President Xi Jinping said Beijing hoped to continue the win-win economic partnership it has with African countries. The African Investment Meeting Roadshow comes as a tangible step to bring more Chinese investment into Africa.
HICHAM BOUDRAA, ACTING DIRECTOR GENERAL THE MOROCCAN AGENCY FOR INVESTMENT AND EXPORT DEVELOPMENT "As you see, right after the FOCAC, you have some Chinese companies that are aware about the opportunities in Africa. And this helps us to go quickly and make the opportunities concrete as soon as possible."
According to the African Development Bank, there is a financing gap of between 68 and 108 billion US dollars every year in the continent's infrastructure. But for the Chinese investors, that means Africa is breathing great potential.
H.E. AZIZ MEKOUAR MOROCCAN AMBASSADOR TO CHINA "Africa will be, by 2050, as I said, have 2 billion people. The growth in many countries in Africa is between 6.5-8%. That means there is a great potential for the relations and business between China and Africa."
DR. ADAM WU, COO CHINA INVESTS OVERSEAS "Africa is opening up to China, is welcoming. It's genuinely a destination that's welcoming Chinese investments and Chinese companies wholeheartedly. Comparing to the western countries that are restricting the Chinese investments."
Some of the investors at the event said with the growing tide of anti-globalism, collaborations between China and African countries are a strong force against protectionism. It is hoped that this partnership can continue to bring new hope and opportunities for both sides. CGTN, Beijing.
