Iran blocked all flights to and from Iraq's Kurdistan region at the request of the Iraqi central government, spokesman for Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Keivan Khosravi said on Sunday.

All flights from Iran to Sulaymaniyah and Erbil as well as flights through Iran's airspace from the Kurdistan region have been stopped, the spokesman said.

The decision was announced one day ahead of the Kurdish independence referendum.
