Negative US reports on Chinese firms lack proof

The US’s recent negative reports on Chinese enterprises lack conclusive evidence and the support of relevant data, said Chinese Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) on Thursday.

When asked to comment on the recent US market blacklist of major Chinese online shopping platforms, Gao Feng, spokesman of MOFCOM said, “China has always attached great importance to the protection of intellectual property rights and it will continue to monitor and investigate IPR violations.”

Gao said that in the first three quarters of 2017, more than 110,000 cases of infringement and counterfeiting were investigated and dealt with by administrative law enforcement agencies nationwide. Public security agencies investigated over 9,800 cases and prosecuted some 9,024 cases.

He said China urges the US to objectively evaluate such efforts and resolve differences by strengthening bilateral cooperation in the promotion of IPR knowledge.

When asked about the US proposal to adopt H.R. 4747, a bill that prohibits the US government agencies from purchasing information and communication technology from Huawei and ZTE or any of their subsidiaries and affiliates, Gao said the motion will send the wrong signal to the market and is not conducive to cooperation between China and the US in the information and communications industry.

“Such proposals will shake the confidence of overseas Chinese enterprises in the US market. We hope the US can objectively and impartially treat Chinese enterprises and products, and strive to create a more open, fair, transparent and convenient market environment for all,”Gao said.

He added that leaders of both countries reached another consensus on bilateral development of trade in a phone call on Jan.16. Gao said China hopes friction will not worsen, and that China will defend its legitimate rights and interests. He said the country hopes the US will work with China to push the developments of pragmatic cooperation in the right direction and increase benefits for their citizens.
