In Ethiopia, Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn has indicated he wants to step down amid lengthy anti-government protests. He handed in his resignation letter to the executive committee of his party, the Southern Ethiopian People's Democratic Movement, and the ruling coalition. However, he said in a short statement that he wants to continue to reform Ethiopia. Desalegn has been in power since 2012. The ruling coalition will confirm his resignation once the full council meets.
