Summer in the city: What’s it like to deliver food in one of China's hottest places?

Being a delivery man is no easy job, especially for those working in Turpan city, in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, where ground temperatures can hit 80 degrees Celsius in summer.
19-year-old delivery man Assylkhan recently talked about his work in a video and explained steps he took to fight the extreme heat in the city.
In July this year, temperatures reached 49 degrees Celsius.

The video opens with Assylkhan peeling an egg which cooked over two hours on the pavement.
“If you feel hungry at noon, you can bury some eggs and do two to three deliveries. Then you go back and have the eggs perfectly ready,” he said.

Assylkhan also revealed some of his personal survival tips.
First of all, a proper outfit is a must. He always wears gloves to protect his hands from intense ultraviolet light.

He also never wears tight pants to prevent his overheating cellphone branding a rectangle onto his skin.
Temperatures could also lead to his phone overheating and shutting down completely. But he has a trick for this: He puts his phone into a plastic bag and leaves it in roadside puddles to cool off.
“Wait for three or four minutes. You need to have a little patience," said Assylkhan.
Staying hydrated is also a priority.
Before work, Assylkhan always puts five or six plastic bottles filled with water in a basket, and he normally drinks some every 30 minutes.

"Sometimes I'm troubled. On the way home, passersby look at me like a garbage collector with those empty bottles and cans in the basket," he joked.
“But to tell you the truth, this is the happiest job I've ever done,” he explained.
“It's not tiring compared to my previous jobs. I like riding an electric car and run around freely.”
