US President Donald Trump has confirmed reports he was threatening to limit intelligence sharing with the United Kingdom over its plans for Huawei. The admission came on the second day of Trump's state visit to the UK. CGTN'S Richard Bestic reports.
UK Prime Minister Theresa May and Britain's National Security Council had agreed Huawei could build parts of Britain's 5G network, with the go-ahead from Parliament.
Visiting U.S. President Trump conceded that in response he had talked about rewriting core elements of the intelligence relationship between the two countries over the issue.
DONALD TRUMP US PRESIDENT "We're going to have absolutely an agreement on Huawei and everything else. We have an incredible intelligence relationship and we will be able to work out any differences. We did discuss it. I see absolutely no limitations. We've never had limitations. This is a truly great ally and partner and we'll have no problem with it."
The president's words, an indication of the pressure applied over Huawei, followed two days of intense politics and pageantry in Britain.
The apparent concessions came against a brightly-colored backdrop of thousands of protesters on the streets.
Trump now heads south, to Portsmouth, the home of the British Royal Navy to mark the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings, the biggest military operation in world history.
RICHARD BESTIC PORTSMOUTH "As the U.S. president prepares to leave these shores, he'll be joining members of the Royal Family, senior politicians and hundreds of D-Day veterans to remember those thousands of young men who sacrificed their lives, ultimately to bring to an end Hitler's domination of mainland Europe.
