Indian Defense Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday visited Chinese border troops stationed on the Nathu-la pass along the border between the two countries.
Two videos of her interactions with Chinese military personnel were posted on her official Twitter account on Sunday.
"Namaste" and "Nihao"
Sitharaman greeted the soldiers with "namaste", before asking if they knew what it meant.
The soldiers answered that they did before explaining that in Chinese they would simply greet someone with "ni hao".
Sitharaman, communicating through an interpreter, had the exchange during a meeting in which she was introduced to a People's Liberation Army commander and captain.
She also posted a photo of her waving at Chinese troops.
"Acknowledged a row of Chinese soldiers from across the fence who were taking pictures on my reaching Nathu La," she tweeted.
Sitharaman's trip on Saturday was the first high-level visit to the area following the 73-day stand-off between Indian and Chinese troops at Doklam, which ended on August 28, India's Economic Times  reported.
