Brazil fans in Sao Paulo revelled in their team's victory last night and CGTN's Paulo Cabral was among them as the Selecao went one step closer to clinching a sixth title on the world stage.
PAULO CABRAL SAO PAULO "Brazilians were confident that they were favorites in the match against Mexico. But the performance of the Mexican players in the first half - particularly the first 20 minutes of the match - almost changed that impression."
"The Mexican side began the game putting much pressure on the Brazilian team and actually attacked and attempted more shots on goal than Brazil. But as the match progressed the Brazilian side found its game and increased its dominance over the pitch. As the team came back for the second half, it seemed much more confident and offensive. At around 5 minutes of the second half star player Neymar scored Brazil's first goal in this match and his first in this World Cup. And then at 43 minutes - near the end of the game - Roberto Firmino scored for Brazil.
GABRIEL FERREIRA, STUDENT "I think Brazil played well. The players seemed calmer this match. I was hoping for 3 goals! But 2 is ok."
REGIANE BOTELHO, ENTREPRENEUR "Brazil played really well. It was beautiful. We have to congratulate our team and our players. We can get to the final and be the champion."
"We are Brazilians and we can't ever give up. I hope this year we'll be champions again and I think we can do it, God willing."
PAULO CABRAL SAO PAULO"Brazil's next match will be on Friday in the quarter-finals of the tournament - with hopes to advance toward a sixth World Cup title. Football analysts here say the team evolved and improved during the group phase, after less-than-stellar performances against Switzerland and Costa Rica. And they confirm Brazil is still a favorite to be the champion this year. Paulo Cabral, CGTN, Sao Paulo."
