Ahead of International Children's Day, an art exhibition has opened in the Chinese Museum of Women and Children in Beijing. Young painters from 8 member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization share their view of the world. CGTN's Cui Hui'ao tells us more.
Drawing a bright future. This art exhibition in Beijing is themed "the World in Children's Eyes", showcasing more than 160 paintings made by children from 8 SCO member countries. 12-year-old Yang Yijing, a local junior schooler is one of the participants, who shared her version of an ideal world.
YANG YIJING STUDENT "I've been painting for 7 years. This one depicts a girl of ethnic minority who is feeding a lamb. I want to convey the harmonious relationship between human beings and nature."
Yang says this is the first time that her painting has gone on display in a big museum. Same for Zhang Chenxi, a student from Shanghai who has a sincere passion for painting even though he has never taken any professional classes.
ZHANG CHENXI STUDENT "I drew some pigeons and they represent peace. The girl is facing the light, and sort of represents the future of peace. So I am mainly representing peace with this painting."
Peace, friendship, mutual respect, joint development, all these core values of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization are reflected in the children's work. The exhibition made its debut two months ago in Tashkent, the capital city of Uzbekistan.
CUI HUI'AO BEIJING "Beijing is the second stop for the art exhibition, which aims to enhance exchanges and friendship among SCO countries. Through paintings children like Yang Yijing and Zhang Chenxi have become the cultural ambassadors that boost ties."
ZHANG CHENXI STUDENT "When I walked around from there, I saw a lot of good paintings. They are different than mine, the view of the world, and the meaning inside the painting is different than mine."
SCO Secretary General Vladimir Norov also took a tour of the exhibit. He says the SCO has always cared for young people, and events like these promote neighborliness and friendship.
VLADIMIR NOROV, SECRETARY-GENERAL SHANGHAI COOPERATION ORGANIZATION "I am sure this exhibition will impress everyone in some way, because the creativity of children is the most sincere, lively and good art!"
The exhibition runs until June 7th. Its next stop will be in Tajikistan, also a SCO member country. Cui Hui'ao, CGTN, Beijing.
