The tit-for-tat trade dispute between China and the US has simmered in recent weeks. CGTN's Tian Wei recently caught up with Jim Rogers, a prominent American businessman who co-founded the Quantum Group of Funds, as he shared his insights on Trump's unpredictability.
Rogers believes if a trade war happens, the market will go down, and in his sight, everyone understands the result – except Trump.
"Trump thinks that he is smarter than history, he does not know what he is doing," said Rogers.
In order to bring the US back to the negotiation table, China has taken several steps to try and reach an agreement, such as lowering tariffs and improving intellectual property protection.
Rogers said: "China is going to lower tariffs on all automobiles, and is going to open insurance markets. He (Xi Jinping) talked about a lot of things, none of which are bad - and all of which might calm Trump down."
However, Trump's behavior is known to be unpredictable. People are waiting to see if he will do something that would bring the two sides back to negotiation. "The reason Mr. Trump is unpredictable is that he doesn't know himself. He says one thing today, and tomorrow he says another thing," stated Rogers.
He added that "Trump doesn't know what he wants. He doesn't know what his positions are. He is going to do trade wars, military wars because he thinks he is smart and he can lash out and control it."
