"Look, we have a huge advantage, because the product supply chains are mostly in China," said Neil Shen Nanpeng, founding and managing partner of Sequoia Capital China. Neil Shen is one of the biggest names in China's investment circle.
World Insight Tian Wei sat down with Neil Shen ahead of the Two Sessions, talking about where there's a vacuum in the market... and the opportunities lie. This year marks his first year as a CPPCC member.
"In e-commerce, we have Amazon which is a great company, but we have here in China is Alibaba, JD, Weipin shop, Pinduoduo..." Neil Shen explained.
The Two Sessions is the time when China the whole country is debating about current policies and the best way forward. Over the years, technology companies from China are transforming not only the country's economy but also going global.
"Firstly, some of those business expansion takes time, seeing from their business in China. Secondly, in different verticals, there are different companies... the Chinese player is just more sophisticated in delivering e-commerce experience," said Neil Shen.
However, going overseas is a not an easy thing. There are obstacles.
"E-commerce does have a certain area which is sensitive, for example, payment, the question is do you want to establish e-commerce at the same time establish payment, maybe you should do that step by step. But, for e-commerce as a service, many countries will welcome China player to provide the very top quality."
