China's Wang Yafan reached the second round of women's singles at US Open on Tuesday by beating Anna Schmiedlova of Slovakia 6-1, 3-6, 6-4.
The two met once in 2014 Wuhan Open when the Slovakian beat the Chinese in three sets, a situation the Chinese world number 90 wanted to turn over at US Open. She easily took the first frame 6-1.
But the 24-year-old had no answer in the following set as the Slovakian won five games in a row to take the second set 6-3.
Wang fought back in the final set as she closed the match out 6-4 to claim her second win in women's singles' main draw at any Grand Slams. Wang's first win was also in US Open two years ago.
