The first stage tabletop exercises of the China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) maritime joint exercise was held at the Changi naval base in Singapore on Thursday and Friday.
The tabletop exercise, co-hosted by China and Singapore, was attended by all 10 ASEAN countries.
The exercise focused on simulating the joint search and rescue under the Code for Unplanned Encounters at Sea (CUES), preparing for the second phase of the exercise, which will be held in October.

China and the ASEAN countries agreed in February to hold the first China-ASEAN maritime joint exercise this year.
The exercises will expand military and security exchanges, enhance mutual trust and cooperation, and jointly safeguard regional stability.
