Xi expresses condolence over death of Vietnam's former top party leader Do Muoi

Chinese President Xi Jinping, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, sent a message of condolence to General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee Nguyen Phu Trong on Wednesday over the death of the Vietnam's former top party leader Do Muoi.
Do Muoi, former general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee, died on Monday night at the age of 101.
Xi extended his deepest condolences to Do Muoi's relatives.
He said he believes that the Communist Party of Vietnam, the Vietnamese government and its people will turn grief into strength and continue to reach new achievement goals under the leadership of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
China is willing to work with Vietnam to continuously consolidate their traditional friendship and promote sustainable, sound and steady development of China-Vietnam comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.
Do Muoi is an outstanding leader of the older generation of the Vietnamese party and government and a close comrade and friend of the Chinese party and people, Xi added.
Xi hailed that Do Muoi made important contributions to the development of bilateral relations between the two parties and countries
Do Muoi, who was born in February 1917, was general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee from June 1991 to December 1997.
He visited China in 1991, 1995 and 1997.
