Russian President Vladimir Putin Wednesday said China-Russia ties are moving forward in the direction set by both sides and are very important to the two countries.
Putin made the remarks while meeting with Yang Jiechi, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee in Sochi.
Putin noted he and Chinese President Xi Jinping reached new and important consensuses on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in South Africa last month.

He said Russia is willing to further strengthen strategic communication with China, enrich the two countries' comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination, deepen pragmatic cooperation in various fields and coordinate closely in international and regional affairs.
The Russian president added he is looking forward to meeting Chinese President Xi Jinping again.
Yang, who is also director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee, told Putin this year marks a milestone in the development of Sino-Russian relations.
Putin has met President Xi twice this year. In June he paid a state visit to Beijing and then attended the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit in the eastern coastal city of Qingdao. In July, Putin also took part in the BRICS Summit together with President Xi.

The senior Chinese official said the two leaders' meetings pointed out the direction for the countries' next-stage cooperation.
He added that under the strategic guidance of President Xi and President Putin, the two sides' comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination maintains a strong momentum of development and sets an example for building a new type of international relations featuring mutual respect, fairness, justice and win-win cooperation.
China is ready to work with Russia to fully implement the important consensuses of the two heads of state, maintain high-level strategic cooperation, promote the development of the international order in a more just and reasonable direction and open up broader prospects for the development of Sino-Russian relations, Yang stressed.
Earlier in the day, Yang and Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev co-hosted the 14th round of the China-Russia strategic security consultation in Moscow.
