China calls for a fair, objective view of China's development from the Netherlands, a Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson said Thursday, as a response to a newly issued Dutch policy note about its position on China.
China wishes to work with the Netherlands to safeguard and promote the healthy and stable development of their bilateral ties and to better serve the two peoples, spokesperson Lu Kang told a press briefing.
The Dutch government issued a policy note about its position on China Wednesday, named "The Netherlands & China: a new balance," which calls for a more critical attitude toward China while admitting China is an important partner.
China has always believed that countries should make efforts to increase mutual trust, build consensus, and expand cooperation in developing good relations that are in line with their shared interests, Lu said. And the efforts to strengthen bilateral ties should not be affected by hearsay or outside interference.
Noting that the Netherlands is one of China's most important partners in the EU, Lu said cooperation has been the mainstream of their bilateral relations and has brought tangible benefits to the two peoples over the years.
China attaches great importance to developing relations with the Netherlands and is willing to continue to carry out high-level cooperation based on mutual respect and mutual benefit, he added.
