The Milwaukee Brewers of MLB should be happy about their 6-5 victory against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday in Game 1 of the National League Championship Series. So should their fans in the city because they are about to receive free burgers.
George Webb, a restaurant chain in Wisconsin in 1948 promised that if the Brewers, which were still playing in the minor league then, wins 12 games in a row, the restaurant will give out free burgers. However, in almost 30 years, the team never reached that goal and thus the vow never came true.

Finally on April 19, 1987, the Brewers won 12 consecutive games, three days before George Webb gave away 168,194 burgers, according to the restaurant's website. Now, it will happen again, but it's hard to tell how many burgers will be consumed this time.
"They did it!!! (We always knew they would!) In honor of George Webb's famous prediction, we will be giving away FREE BURGERS* on Thursday, 10/18 from 2PM to 6PM. Plus, we'll have special pricing on other menu items including fries, soft drinks, and more. *Limit 1 per person," posted George Webb on Twitter.

Craig Counsell, manager of the Brewers said, before Game 1 that they knew the game is not just about the playoffs. "Who knew that we would make it this far and the biggest piece of stress going into this game would be George Webb's hamburgers?" said Counsell.
31 years ago, when George Webb gave away free burgers for the first time, Counsell was only 17 years old and his dad was working in the front office of the Brewers. "It's hard to believe that it's never happened since then. I guess it's a pretty good streak. But it's something for everybody to talk about, for sure, and I mean, free hamburgers is free hamburgers. I know you all will be there," said Counsell.
