The famous Chinese tennis player Li Na appeared at Wimbledon during Nadal’s match on Saturday – her debut at the oldest tennis tournament in the world after her retirement.
The first Asian Grand Slam singles champion, former French Open and Australian Open women's singles champion will play the ladies doubles of the veterans’ tennis tournament partnering with Japanese star Ai Sugiyama next Tuesday.
Li Na wore a red dress and was ushered into the Royal Box accompanied by her husband Jiang Shan.
The invited list of the Royal Box is decided by the Wimbledon Chairman. The guests invited to watch the tennis match in the box also have special dress requirements: Men must be in suits and women in formal wear.
After the loss to Barbora Strýcová in the third round of the Wimbledon women's singles in 2014, Li decided to retire leaving Wimbledon as her final competition.
In the 100th anniversary of Wimbledon, the organizing committee established the "Big Eight Clubs".
All top 8 men and women singles players, top 4 of the men and women doubles and champion & runner-up of the mixed doubles can become honorary members and be invited to become guests of the Royal Box.
Li Na's best score in Wimbledon was the top eight in women's singles, thus she won a permanent membership at Wimbledon.
