To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the founding of southwest China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, an exhibition highlighting its art achievements opened at Beijing's Cultural Palace of Nationalities last Thursday.

This is a showcase of Guangxi's artistic achievements in the past six decades and will run until November 20.

The exhibition includes 180 pieces of paintings, photographs and calligraphy work. Each category showcases 60 pieces along with some ethnic handicrafts and clothing.

Some of the highlights of the exhibition were the exquisite ethnic costumes, brocades and embroideries from 12 ethnic groups in the autonomous region. They displayed different ethnic groups' traditions, customs and tastes.

"Take the Zhuang ethnic group, for example, their traditional costumes used to be dark, blue and black in the past, but nowadays being influenced by the Han people and other ethnic groups, their costumes are becoming more bright and colorful," said Zheng Yayuan, a docent in Guangxi Museum of Nationalities.

Both prominent and emerging artists created the paintings. Most of them depicted the amazing natural landscapes in Guangxi, such as the renowned Elephant Trunk Hill, and local tourist attractions.

"This painting depicts the Guangxi Zuojiang Huashan Rock Art Cultural Landscape, which was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2016. And this one shows the Zhuang, Yi, Dong, and other ethnic groups gathering together celebrating the Sanyuesan Festival," said Huang Yunlong, vice chairman of the Federation of Literature and Art in Guangxi.

Meanwhile, the photographs revealed the profound economic and social changes that have taken place in the autonomous region since it was established 60 years ago.

According to the organizers, the exhibition was also to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the launch of the reform and opening-up policy.

"This exhibition is a look back at Guangxi's artistic achievements in the past 60 years. It offers a good opportunity for Guangxi to introduce its rich culture and history, as well as great natural landscapes to people all across the country," Huang added.
