Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with U.S. Chamber of Commerce representatives in Beijing on Tuesday.
He opened the meeting with Chinese New Year wishes, saying now is the time to get the relationship back on track.
Wang noted that the China-U.S. relationship is one of the most important bilateral ties in the world, and the two countries should maintain mutual respect and mutual prosperous.
Economic and trade cooperation can still be the "ballast stone for bilateral ties", as long as the two sides have a positive attitude on cooperation, Wang said.
Wang urged the U.S. to abandon the Cold War mentality and the concept of the zero-sum game. He said China never seeks hegemony, but it is committed to the path of peaceful development and it pursues an open and mutually beneficial strategy.
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce said it's maintained over the years close ties with the China Council for the promotion of international trade, remaining hopeful a long-term trade deal can be hammered out with China.
