Twenty-three lions, tigers and bears are recovering at Al Ma'wa, a wildlife reserve stretching over 140 hectares in Jerash, Jordan. The animals come from all over the Middle East. Some were rescued from abandoned zoos in the midst of conflicts in Syria, Iraq and Gaza. Some were confiscated from attempts to smuggle them across the Jordanian border. The animals are living here peacefully, receiving meticulous medical care.
