Singapore says foreign minister to visit Pyongyang

Singapore's foreign minister will make a two-day trip to Pyongyang this week, its government said Wednesday, as preparations for a summit in the city-state between Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un accelerate.
Vivian Balakrishnan will pay an official visit to Pyongyang on Thursday and Friday at the invitation of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK)'s Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho, Singapore's foreign ministry said in a statement.
During his two-day visit, Balakrishnan will also call on Kim Yong Nam, the President of the Presidium of the Supreme People’s Assembly, said the ministry.

His trip to the DPRK comes nearly a week ahead of the meeting between Trump and Kim on June 12 in Singapore.
Balakrishnan will be accompanied by officials from the ministry of foreign affairs.
Balakrishnan was in Washington on Tuesday and met US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and National Security Advisor John Bolton. He said Singapore is "happy to play (its) part for world peace" in hosting the summit.
