As FC Porto were able to hold on to the 3-2 win over Galatasaray in the UEFA Champions League Group stage, their veteran goalkeeper Iker Casillas welcomed his 100th Champions League victory.

Thanks to Tuesday's achievement, 37-year-old Casillas has followed Cristiano Ronaldo into the Champions League history books. The Spanish goalkeeper Casillas joined Porto in 2015 and won the Champions League title three times during a hugely successful spell with his former club Real Madrid.

Ronaldo reached 100 wins in 161 games while his former teammate at Santiago Bernabeu, Casillas, popularly known as ‘San Iker' (Saint Iker) for his spectacular saves, also notched up his 100th win in 177 games.

The legendary Spaniard made his Champions League debut on September 18, 1999, to become the youngest goalkeeper to play in Europe's most high-profile club tournament. The record was broken in October of 2017 by Benifica's Mile Svilar.

Casillas has played for the Spanish national team a record 167 times, and has been representing La Forja Roja since June 2000. The former Spain custodian is the joint sixth-most capped male footballer in history, apart from being the joint second-most capped European player of all time. He became his country's first-choice goalkeeper at the 2002 FIFA World Cup, and went on to play at UEFA Euro 2004 and the 2006 World Cup.

In 2008, he led Spain to that year's Euro before Spain won their first-ever FIFA World Cup title in 2010 under Casillas's captaincy. In his glittering career, the Spaniard has also played over 1,000 professional matches and has emphatically won all major club and national championship titles.

The footballer with the third most wins in the UEFA Champions League is Barcelona legend Xavi Hernandez, who won 91 games in 157 appearances. The Spanish midfield marshal is one of the greatest midfielders to lift the famous trophy in 2006, 2009, 2011 and 2015.
