Over 85 well-preserved dinosaur footprints were found in Hastings, East Sussex, England. These footprints are 100 million years old and left by at least seven different species, making them the most diverse and detailed collection from the Cretaceous Period to date. (The Cretaceous is a geologic period that spans 79 million years and ends with a large mass extinction in which many groups, including non-avian dinosaurs, pterosaurs, and large marine reptiles died out.)
Many of the footprints, which range in size from less than 2 cm to over 60 cm across, are so well-preserved that fine detail of skin, scales, and claws can be seen. Researchers say these fossils can help understand how dinosaur lived and interacted with the environment at the time.
