China's 35th Antarctic expedition team aboard Chinese icebreaker research ship Xuelong (Snow Dragon) competently handled the situation after the ship crashed into an iceberg in January while moving through the Amundsen Sea in dense ice. The collided occurred after the ship's radar system malfunctioned due to the dense fog and thick ice floes and failed to identify the iceberg. The crash shattered the ship's mast and left 250 metric tons of snow and ice piled up on the prow and the front deck, but injured nobody on board.
