The city of Jiangmen, home to more than 400 overseas Chinese around the world, is sparing no effort to promote its rural tourism after service on the long-awaited Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao bridge officially started on October 23.
Zhou Huihong, head of the city's Publicity Department, said Jiangmen has rich tourism resources and is expected to become a new tourist destination in the Pearl River Delta, annually attracting a growing number of visitors from home and abroad, in the coming years.
"And relevant departments should redouble efforts to promote the city's rural tourism, which has great potential for future development and is an effective way to promote the city's rural economy," she said.

Zhou urged tourism administrations and travel agencies in the city to build more scenic spots with the special styles and features of Jiangmen, and introduce more tourist routes to attract visitors while advancing cooperation with more Sino-foreign travel agencies.
In addition to diaolou, or multi-story watchtowers and ancient village clusters, Jiangmen has plenty of islands, a long coastline and hot spring resources that have great potential for tourism development, she added.
Diaolou built by overseas Chinese during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) and Minguo period (1911-49) are structures blending Chinese and western styles that have now been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list.
Meanwhile, Jiangmen, located in the western part of the Pearl River Delta, is the birthplace of wing chun, a Chinese martial art that is popular in south China and abroad. It is estimated that more than 50 million people worldwide practice wing chun.
More than 2,000 tourists from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region toured Jiangmen on Oct. 23, the first day the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge started service.
The city's tourism department said more than 50,000 tourists from Hong Kong will tour Jiangmen via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge this year.
