One killed, 16 injured in mosque explosion in Afghan capital

A prayer leader was killed and 16 others wounded after an explosion rocked a mosque during Friday prayers in the eastern side of the Afghan capital Kabul, a spokesman for the Ministry of Interior Affairs confirmed.
The incident occurred when an improvised explosive device placed inside the mosque was detonated at around 1:20 p.m. local time, spokesman Nasrat Rahimi tweeted.
The mosque is located in Police District 9 of the city.
Prayer leader and imam of the mosque Mawlawi Samiullah Raihan was killed in the blast and 16 wounded people were sent to hospital, the official added.
The death toll may go up as a number of the wounded were in critical condition.
No group has claimed responsibility for the blast so far.
