President Xi: China should be a global leader in technology

Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Wednesday China should be a global leader in the high-tech field.
Xi made the remarks when meeting representatives of space scientists and engineers who participated in the research and development of the Chang'e-4 mission at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

He praised their technological innovation and asked them to keep up their good work.
The Chang'e-4 probe made a ground-breaking journey, in which China became the first country to land a spacecraft on the far side of the moon.

President Xi stressed the importance of innovation and pointed out that the Chang'e-4 mission has achieved a series of innovations, filling a series of international and domestic gaps along the way.
We should deeply grasp the general trend of science and technology development, carry forward the scientific spirit and target at strategic, basic and frontier fields, he said.
He also hoped scientists will strive to achieve more major breakthroughs in key core technologies, enhance the overall effectiveness of the national innovation system to enhance China's innovation ability and scientific and technological strength.

Noting that great undertakings begin with dreams and dreams are the source of inspiration, Xi stressed that China is a nation that dares to pursue dreams and Chang'e-4 realized Chinese nation's dream of lunar exploration.

Using the Cheng'e-4 mission as a good example of international cooperation, the Chinese president also added that China was willing to cooperate with other countries in learning more about the universe.
He called on science and technology workers and space engineers in China make more efforts to push forward international aerospace cause and bring more Chinese wisdom, solutions and force to the peaceful use of space and the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.
