Moon Jae-in, President of the Republic of Korea (ROK) and Kim Jong Un, leader of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) attended a symbolic tree-planting ceremony on Friday to commemorate their first meeting.
The pair planted the pine tree on the military demarcation line (MDL) which was established in 1953, representing the year when the Korean War armistice was signed.
According to the Blue House, the tree-planting ceremony was designed to symbolize both sides’ wish for peace and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula.
Following the tree-planting ceremony, Moon and Kim are scheduled to continue their dialogue before issuing a joint statement on the result of the summit.
