Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying emphasized that China is against the idea of making the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) treaty a multilateral one.
She made the remarks during a regular press briefing on Monday, responding to comments saying that China should join the INF.
Hua pointed out that the treaty is a bilateral one signed between Russia and the US, adding it has played a key role in improving international relations, carrying forward the nuclear disarmament process, and maintaining the global strategic balance and stability.
A unilateral decision to pull out of it will lead to negative consequences, Hua stressed.
The spokesperson also emphasized that China is against the idea of multilateralizing the treaty, saying that China has always been restrained in its military development.
