In this episode of CGTN's "Flower Dance" series, food blogger Laowanzi makes a floral cake, one of the hottest online trends in recent years.
Floral cakes are such a hit among young people that they've become a centerpiece for birthday celebrations.
And what's more special than a number-shaped cake as you blow the candles on your special day?
According to Laowanzi, flowers are widely used in traditional Chinese cuisine, but also often mixed into food. Yet for cakes, flowers are used as decoration, which makes the final product very beautiful. All of these dishes have something in common: they are yummy.

Flowers can be used as food in three different ways, as decoration, for their aroma (think rose and osmanthus fragrans), and as an edible ingredient.

Small flowers, such as grass flowers, are edible. Big ones are usually used for decoration on plates. It's generally the case but not always.
