Peng Liyuan, wife of Chinese President Xi Jinping, met with Jenni Haukio, wife of Finnish President Sauli Niinistö at Beijing Fun in Qianmen in Beijing on Tuesday, and enjoyed poems and music performances from Chinese students.
The two first ladies met at Page One, a designer's book shop. They visited different themed areas of the bookstore and learned about the information of Beijing Fun and the bookstore. In the parent-child reading area, Peng and Haukio waved to parents and children.
After that, Peng introduced the history and renovation of the area to Haukio.
Peng and Haukio enjoyed the performance by teachers and students from Beijing Foreign Studies University and China Conservatory of Music, including poetry recitation and singing.
The students from Finnish language major read the winning poems by Haukio, who was surprised and praised. To the accompaniment of Chinese zither music, the students also sang ancient Chinese poetry.
Also, Peng and Haukio enjoyed the violin and piano works of Finnish composer Sibelius, performed by the students.
Poems and music performances serve as a bridge for communication between people's hearts, and they also enhance the friendship between China and Finland.
