China’s Deng Wei broke three world records and won the women's 64kg division at the Asian Weightlifting Championships in Ningbo on Wednesday.
The four-time world champion hoisted 108kg and 112kg on her first two attempts of the snatch, then returned to the stage to successfully set a new world record, by pushing up 115kg.
After the break, the 26-year-old came back for the clean and jerk portion of the competition. After heaving 137kg on her first attempt, the Fujian native raised up 142 on her second, and broke another world record. That boosted her overall total to 257 kilograms, which is a new world record as well.
Deng has increased the world records in the 64 kilo division at three straight events, after last year's World Championships, and the World Cup in February, a progression she hopes to continue all the way to Tokyo 2020.
"Coming in, the world record was not very high and I had reached that weight during my training sessions, so that's why I was able to break it. Furthermore, I had already snatched 115 kilograms in practice, so I was confident about lifting that amount of weight as well," Deng said after the competition.
