2018 in review: China's new public good

CGTN

Amid a gloomy world economy overshadowed by the U.S. withdrawal from the multilateral trading system, China opened the inaugural international import expo in Shanghai in early November, marking a further step on its opening-up path.

The five-day China International Import Expo (CIIE) brought over 3,000 foreign firms from 130 countries and regions, which presented fascinating exhibits ranging from flying cars to bio-toilets and diamond-crusted shoes to presbyopic glasses. The CIIE concluded with prospective deals worth around 57.8 billion U.S. dollars.

The expo is widely viewed as a global public good deed that China is providing to the world, in hopes of sharing its prosperity by cementing ties with the rest of the world.
