Malan flowers peek through snow in Xinjiang

While most of China is enjoying flower blossoms in the warming weather and anticipating more in the summer, Xinjiang is witnessing blooming malan flowers – in the snow.

Unexpected snowfall blanketed the northern part of Aksu in Xinjiang this May, coinciding with the flower's florescence. However, the cold weather couldn't hinder its beauty.

The flower is found throughout China. Because it repels unwanted insects, it is usually positioned with other plants to keep the area free from pests.
