"China welcomes Seychelles to actively participate in the Belt and Road construction, and will strengthen South-South cooperation with Seychelles on climate change," Chinese President Xi Jinping said.
President Xi made the remarks when meeting Seychelles President Danny Faure on Saturday in Beijing ahead of the 2018 Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.
He noted that China and Seychelles have a profound traditional friendship. The two sides always adhere to sincerity and equality, being committed to unity, cooperation and common development.
China supports Seychelles in independently choosing the development path that suits its own national conditions.
"China is willing to maintain close contacts with Seychelles, enhance political mutual trust and conduct cooperation in areas such as people's livelihood, infrastructure, tourism and maritime economy," President Xi said.
President Faure responded that Seychelles regards China as an important partner and appreciates China's valuable help over the years.
"Taking the opportunity of jointly building the Belt and Road, we will carry out more bilateral cooperation, support each other in international affairs and push bilateral relations to a new level," he added.
The two heads of state also jointly witnessed the signing of bilateral cooperation documents.
