Technological innovation benefits environmental sustainability

By Li Ying

While environmental sustainability relies on all of us, technological innovations continue to benefit the earth as well. A forum and exhibition in southern China are helping link technology with the environment.

At present, China faces a serious challenge to prevent and control water pollution. It's also a water-scarce country with per capita share less than one-third of the world average. The main reason for the situation is that the discharge of wastewater is not up to standard and cannot be fully and efficiently recycled.

A company from Taiwan has a technological innovation solution to the problem.

Dr. Li Daqing, general manager of Qing Jing Luminous Energy Science and Technology Co. Ltd. said that the firm's products are designed mainly to prevent and control sewage runoff from factories and various industries. By using an oxidant generated by ultraviolet light, it'll quickly and efficiently decompose and degrade organic pollutants on a large scale, and this will help factories and relevant industries reach international standards for emissions, recycling and environmental sustainability.

Li added he's optimistic about the future development of technological innovation in the Chinese mainland, and the broad market potential makes him want to develop his company here. He hopes to exchange more of his ideas and secure suitable opportunities for cooperation with other participants through the platforms such as exhibitions and forums.

Yu Huarong, the secretary-general of one of the exhibition organizers, the China Association of Inventions, noted that the authorities hope to support both local inventors and their patents as well as innovative talents from all over the world. Building a platform like the exhibition enables people to exchange and cooperate better, which can promote the further transformation of advanced technological achievements into new products to benefit the whole society.

Meanwhile, a Swedish-based green technology company has brought its own sustainable sanitation solutions to Foshan. The company, Ecoloo, has made biologically sustainable toilets. The odor-free, water-free, sewage- and chemical-free toilet promises to solve China's lack of water resources.

Imad Agi, CEO of Ecoloo Group, explained that the products use safe bacteria to treat the waste and only natural fertilizer is collected from the treated waste. So far, cooperation between his company and China is bearing fruit.

As the saying goes, lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets. Experts at the events agree that social development must go hand-in-hand with sustainable environmental development. And in this new era of scientific and technological innovation, there's no doubt that more enterprises and organizations worldwide will add their voices to the call for green development.
