The World Expo, officially known as the International Registered Exhibition, is a large international exhibition designed to showcase the products and craftsmanship of each participating nation. At World Expos, participating countries generally build their own pavilions, which is a visual feast for visitors.
The first World Expo – the Great Exhibition – took place in London in 1851. Since the BIE was created in 1928 to regulate and oversee these mega-events, World Expos aim to highlight scientific, technological, economic and social progress.
The World Expo held in Shanghai, China in 2010 was the largest World Expo site and welcomed the highest number of participating countries. The next World Expo will take place in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, between October 20, 2020, and April 10, 2021.
