The 20th Grand Slam champion Roger Federer marked his 100th match at the season-opening Grand Slam by sweeping 21-year-old American Taylor Fritz off center court 6-2, 7-5, 6-2 on Friday. The Swiss Express continued to chase a record-breaking seventh title in Melbourne, and 21st Grand Slam overall.
Federer's next opponent is Stefanos Tsit-si-pas of Greece, who eliminated Nikoloz Basi-lash-vili from Georgia in four. Also, 25th-seeded Canadian Denis Shapovalov swept past Japan's Taro Daniel, while Germany's 4th seed, Alexander Zverev, outlasted Frenchman Jeremy Chardy in five sets.

In the women's bracket, Maria Sharapova knocked out defending champion Caroline Wozniacki 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. That moves the five-time Grand Slam champion from Russia, and 2008 winner of the season's first major, into the last 16.
Meanwhile, crowd favorite Ashleigh Barty beat Maria Sakkari of Greece in straight sets, while American Amanda Anisimova upset 11th-seeded Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, and Russia's Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova swept past Aliaksandra Sasnovich of Belarus.
For doubles results, China's Zhang Shuai and her local partner, also former doubles world number one Samantha Stosur, upset 8th seeds Hsieh Su-wei from Chinese Taipei and American Abigail Spears 7-6, 6-2, top seeds from Czech Republic Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova beat local pair Monique Adamczak and Jessica Moore 6-4, 6-4.
Zhang Ze and Gong Maoxin, China's first pair to win a men's doubles match at a Grand Slam, failed to make history as they lost to Spain duo Pablo Carreno Busta and Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.
