Faced with challenges from the ecological environment, the world becomes a community of shared future in which all human beings will rise and fall together and where no country can seek development on its own, Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Sunday.
Xi made the remarks at the opening ceremony of the 2019 Beijing International Horticultural Exhibition, which will run from April 29 to October 7 at the foot of the Great Wall in the Chinese capital's Yanqing District.
Only through coordination and cooperation can we effectively deal with global environmental problems such as climate change, marine pollution, and biological conservation, and achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development of the United Nations, said Xi.

He said we should seek the harmony between humankind and nature, and maintain the overall balance of the ecology on Earth.
"We should seek green development," Xi added.
Lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets, and a good ecological system contains infinite economic value, he noted.
We should love nature and advocate green and low-carbon lifestyle, Xi continued.
We should promote the awareness of environmental protection, and build an environmental governance system in which the entire society can join, and make the ecological and environmental protection awareness the mainstream culture in society, Xi explained.
"We need to pursue the spirit of scientific governance. In terms of ecological management, we should follow the rules, plan scientifically, take all factors into consideration and build an ecological system in which all creatures can coexist," said the president.
The second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation (BRF) concluded Saturday in Beijing. The Belt and Road Initiative aims to build a path of open and green development, and China is willing to work with other countries to build a community of shared future for mankind, Xi said.
At the end of his speech, Xi officially announced the opening of the expo.
Themed "Live Green, Live Better," the expo is poised to impress an expected number of 16 million visitors from home and abroad with a huge collection of plants, flowers and eye-catching pavilions as well as ideas for green development.
More than 110 countries and international organizations as well as over 120 non-official exhibitors have confirmed participation.
