Liverpool goal machine Mohamed Salah stole the thunder on an action-packed final day of the English Premier League season on Saturday. Even though Manchester City won the title hands down almost a month ago, the season finale still had a slew of twists and turns in store.
As Liverpool gunned for a Champions League berth for next season with at least a draw in their final league game against Brighton, all eyes were on their talismanic Egyptian forward and his quest for a new goalscoring record. Mo Salah didn’t disappoint his club and fans as he once again underlined his status as the best player of the season.
His 32nd goal in the Reds' emphatic 4-0 win at Anfield not only secured a passage to the top flight of the upcoming European season but also took him past Alan Shearer, Cristiano Ronaldo and Luis Suarez as the all-time highest goalscorer in a 38-match league season. Dejan Lovren, Dominic Solanke and Andrew Robertson scored the other goals in the memorable season-ending victory for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

The win, however, didn’t help fourth-placed Liverpool replace Tottenham Hotspur in third place as Mauricio Pochettino's side trailed three times before edging past Leicester 5-4 in one of the most topsy-turvy contests of the season. A pair of double strikes by Erik Lamela and an in-form Harry Kane, who subsequently reached 30 goals for the league season, along with an own goal from Christian Fuchs helped the Spurs clinch a jaw-dropping victory in what may be their final game at Wembley before the London-based side relocate to their new stadium at White Hart Lane. Jamie Vardy scored two of Leicester's four goals.
A Liverpool victory meant Chelsea’s charge for a Champions League berth was inconsequential, but the Blues suffered a 3-0 defeat at Newcastle. Ayoze Perez’s double strike and a Dwight Gayle goal secured 10th place for Rafael Benitez's side while Antonio Conte's boys, who will have a shot at the FA Cup in Saturday's final against Manchester United, ended the season in fifth place.

It was also the day of Arsene Wenger’s farewell as Arsenal manager in his side’s final league game at Huddersfield. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's first-half goal not only gave the gunners a hard-fought 1-0 win but also ended the 22-season long reign of their iconic French manager on a victorious note. One of the highlights of the match was when fans from both sides applauded Wenger in the 22nd minute of the game and two planes flew over the stadium with messages of support for the Frenchman.
Another man saying farewell, Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick, saw his side register a narrow 1-0 victory against Watford. Marcus Rashford scored the winning goal at Old Trafford as Carrick bid adieu after spending 12 seasons and making 464 appearances as a Red Devils player.

Among the final day’s other winners were Bournemouth, who made a 2-1 comeback win at Burnley, and West Ham, who outclassed Everton 3-1, thanks to a Manuel Lanzini brace.
Elsewhere, Swansea got relegated after squandering their early lead in their 2-1 loss against an already-relegated Stoke. They were joined by the bottom-ranked West Brom, who lost 2-0 to Crystal Palace in their last Premier League game before dropping out of the top flight.
