China will roll out new measures to promote the high-quality development of the manufacturing industry, said Miao Wei, minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) on Thursday.
China will further adjust the industrial structure and change the mode of development. An index system should be identified, and both the policy system and the assessment system will be considered, said Miao. Weak points of the key common technologies from products in the lab to those in the factory will be addressed.

Starting from this year, the country will intensify efforts to support provinces that did not reach the de-capacity goal set in the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-2020). During the period, China aims to cut the coal production capacity of up to 500 million metric tons and the crude steel production capacity of 150 million tons.
The country will also continue to streamline administration and delegate power to the lower levels, and further open its market, Miao added.
Embracing 5G
Miao also said that telecommunications infrastructure has played an increasingly important role in driving socio-economic development. The MIIT issued 5G licenses on testing frequency to three main telecom operators in China late last year.
The ministry is also issuing provisional licenses in several cities. 5G products like 5G phones and tablets are expected to put on the market in the second half of this year, said Miao.
