Performers in ancient Chinese costumes and armed with a pair of ice skates appeared at the Shichahai ice rink in Beijing's Xicheng District on Sunday, putting on a spectacular show to welcome the Winter Olympic Games the Chinese capital is to host in 2022.
The ice skating performance was themed to inspire national passion for outdoor winter sports as part of the efforts to get Beijing and co-host city Zhangjiakou ready for the winter games three years away.

Shichahai is one of the most-visited tourist attractions in Beijing, which includes three lakes, respectively Qianhai, meaning Front Sea; Houhai, meaning Back Sea, and Xihai, meaning West Sea. The area is surrounded by architecture of historical values, scenic beauty, as well as old-fashioned local residences, Hutong and Courtyard.
Built in 1952, the skating rink at Shichahai is regarded as one of the largest outdoor natural rinks in Beijing.
