Justin Thomas eagled the first hole and subsequently clinched the sole lead early in the third round at the rain-interrupted Genesis Open in Los Angeles on Saturday.
The eventful day also saw Tiger Woods, the organizer of the event, made a late charge at a tournament he has never won.
American Thomas edged his Australian rival Adam Scott by just one stroke after two holes when the play was called off for the day in fading light at the rain-hit tournament at Riviera Club.
Incidentally, a seven-hour delay on an opening day on Thursday has already put things way behind schedule.

The unfinished third round will resume at 6:45 a.m. local time (1445 GMT) on Sunday while the final round is expected to start before noon on the same day.
When the play was suspended, Thomas was 13 under par and Scott was at 12 under.
Earlier, the then joint leaders that teed off the round tied, before Thomas almost holed out for albatross at the par-five first.
Americans J.B. Holmes and Patrick Rodgers were two shots behind after two holes.
Former world no. 1 Woods grabbed an eagle and three birdies in his first four holes to improve his performance after a lackluster opening round on Friday.

After trailing by seven strokes after seven holes on Saturday, Woods said, “It was cold. It wasn't raining but it was cold. It was funny to see some of those guys out there with their hitting the ball nowhere.”
“I just wanted to shoot under par for my last six holes. And I thought that would be a nice way to kind of cap off a tough round.”
On making the cut, the legendary golfer, mentioned, “You saw what I did last year. I missed the cut here and I had to add an event. So it's nice to be able to, well I know that one's (1-under) going to get in, so, that's going to make the cut. Even par was, it's going to be back and forth all afternoon. So, I know that one's in. So, I'm playing the weekend and I get two more rounds to kind of get after it.”
