China's ambassador to the U.S., Cui Tiankai, on Saturday stressed that attempts to launch a "new Cold War" between the U.S. and China will not succeed in the long run, during an exclusive interview with CGTN.
At the 2018 Gala Dinner of the U.S.-China Business Council earlier this month, Cui expressed that currently there are attempts to launch a so-called "new Cold War." And there are attempts to start strategic rivalries between the two countries in the name of a so-called "One-Hundred-Year Marathon."
Asked if these attempts still gain attraction, Cui said that sometimes people make noises and advocate their own views, but he insisted that these attempts will not succeed in the long run as it's against the fundamental interests of the two peoples.
In response to if the current hardline policies coming out from the U.S., for instance, Canada's detention of Huawei chief financial officer at the request from the U.S., U.S.' latest Africa strategy or labeling China as a strategic competitor, could push bilateral ties into a negative future, Cui said relations between the two great countries have never been easy.
"We are fully aware of the recent development and we are fully prepared," Cui added.
The Chinese ambassador believed that the long-term interests will dictate the future course of bilateral relations and there are no other choices than closer communication, coordination, and cooperation between the two sides, because only these will serve long-term interests of both countries.
He also expressed the hope that people will not allow themselves to be dominated or misled by the dark side of human nature.
