After a difficult decade, stability is returning to Zimbabwe, and pioneering tourists are gradually trickling back to the country. The country rewards eager travelers with an abundance of natural wonders, friendly locals, fascinating heritage and temperate climate.
Ranging from the spectacular Victoria Falls to the exotic wildlife which can be seen all year round, tourism has helped turn the country's economy around. In 2017, over 1.3 million people vacationed in Zimbabwe according to the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority, and the growth in arrivals is expected to continue in 2018 at a rate of four to five percent.
In a move to maintain stability and avoid the troubled days of the past, Zimbabwe’s government has expanded the Victoria Falls International Airport with a 150-million-US-dollar investment from China. After establishing diplomatic ties in 1980, Zimbabwe has grown to become China’s third largest trade partner in Africa, with trade volumes reaching 1.32 billion US dollars in 2018.
