Russia on Tuesday said it was "deeply disappointed" by US President Donald Trump's decision to re-impose unilateral sanctions on Iran.
"We are deeply disappointed by US steps to re-impose its national sanctions against Iran," the Russian foreign ministry said in a statement.
The ministry said it will do "everything necessary" to save the historic 2015 Iran nuclear deal and protect its shared economic interests with Tehran.
Moscow also called on the international community "not to allow such significant achievements in multilateral diplomacy to be sacrificed in the name of American aspirations to settle political scores with Iran."
Other countries and organizations also voiced their opposition against the US unilateral move.

The United Nations has called on all countries to continue their support for the 2015 Iran nuclear deal.
The European Union, Britain, France and Germany issued a joint statement, saying they will maintain economic ties with Tehran.
Iran's traditional trading partners like Turkey and India had also vowed to overlook the unilateral sanctions.
It has always been China's stance to uphold the Iran nuclear deal. It criticized the US withdrawal from the accord, and has emphasized its determination to keep the deal alive on different occasions.
Israel, on the other hand, becomes the only foreign country that celebrates the US move.
Its Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Monday that the decision was "an important moment for Israel, the United States, the region, and the entire world."
