Violence marred Liverpool’s magnificent 5-2 win over AS Roma in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League semifinal between the two sides at Anfield on Tuesday. A number of visiting supporters clashed with the local Liverpool fans to create ugly scenes in Merseyside.
As per several local media reports, many Roma supporters-some armed with belts, others with hammers-stormed the Red fans outside a pub near Anfield. As a result of the violence, a 53-year-old man was hospitalized in critical condition.
The Merseyside Police have already undertaken a probe on this horrific case of hooliganism.

Incidentally, the incidents come after the Manchester City team bus was damaged by objects thrown by Liverpool supporters waiting on the streets outside of Anfield ahead of their quarterfinals clash earlier this month.
Liverpool were charged by the UEFA for the unruly behavior of their fans and the subsequent damage to the City bus. Notably, the premiership club released a video in which manager Jurgen Klopp pleaded with supporters to “show our best to the world”. But that seemed to have fallen on deaf ears.
