Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met his Omani counterpart Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah on Tuesday in Beijing. The two sides held talks on various bilateral and regional issues of common concern.
This year marks the 40th anniversary since the two states established official diplomatic ties in 1978. Oman, situated in the southeastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula, at the mouth of the Persian Gulf, is a strong supporter of China’s Belt and Road Initiative.
Under the Initiative, a bilateral industrial park is currently under construction in the Duqm Special Economic Zone, helping to transform the Omani fishing village into an industrial free zone.

The two leaders also signed a bilateral memorandum after their nearly hour-long talk.
At the invitation of Foreign Minister Wang Yi, the Omani minister for foreign affairs is on a visit to China from May 12 to 16.
“Here, I would like to send our warm welcome and appreciation to you. You have been in charge of Oman’s foreign affairs for more than 20 years and, as such, you have witnessed the goodwill between the two nations for quite a long time.
"And we have discussed a lot of regional issues of common concern as well. Through today’s dialogue, I sincerely hope we could reach more consensus and further promote our bilateral ties,” said Wang Yi at the start of their talk.
“We really appreciate the reception and invitation of China," Yusuf Bin Alawi said. "Earlier today, we held talks with officials from the People’s Bank of China as well as China‘s Banking and Insurance Regulatory Commission.
"Since the diplomatic ties were established, relations between the two countries have grown closer. We hope our bilateral ties can improve and expand to a wider range, no matter if it is in the economic, industrial, political or tourism sectors.”
