Stressing that the UN is an important partner in co-building the Belt and Road, Chinese President Xi Jinping said China stands ready to work with the UN to comprehensively promote the building of the Belt and Road under the principle of achieving shared growth through discussion and collaboration.
President Xi made the remarks on Friday during his meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres who is attending the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing.
Xi said China firmly upholds multilateralism and the international system with the UN at its core, supports the international order based on international law, and promotes the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.
He said the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) he proposed reflects the idea of mutual benefits and the initiative aligns with the concept of sustainable development of the UN.
Guterres said China has firmly maintained multilateralism and plays an important stabilizing role in the world.
He said the BRI is consistent with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, addressing climate change in line with the Paris Agreement.
